WDS Introduces Multi-age Classroom to Support Diverse Learners

Academic Monday, 10 Nov 2025

This year, thanks to the vision and leadership of our Director of Student Success, Sue Rappaport, WDS welcomed Kitah Kochavim, a multi-age kindergarten and first grade classroom, to our early childhood division.

Kitah Kochavim has been specially designed to support young students with unique learning needs. On a typical day, students in this class engage in all core academic subjects, often with modified materials tailored to their individual goals.

Through structured routines and small-group or one-on-one instruction, the class also focuses on building social skills, emotional regulation, and life skills. Activities may include hands-on learning, sensory breaks, and collaborative projects—all aimed at helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Each day, students enjoy multiple opportunities to participate in entire grade activities such as lunch, recess, specials, and davening.

It has been so rewarding to watch these learners gain confidence, independence, and social skills this Fall. We look forward to seeing them thrive through the year and beyond!
