WDS Students Learn to Appreciate Art

Our Learning to Look art appreciation program, taught by wonderful parent and grandparent volunteers, kicked off this month for our kindergarten through fifth grade classes.

This year’s curriculum focuses on artists of the 18th and 19th centuries, and our first session introduced students to two works by Spanish painter Francisco Goya (1786–1828) — Portrait of Manuel Osorio Manrique de Zúñiga and Majas on a Balcony.

Students explored how the elements of art come to life in these paintings, then creating their own pastel portraits inspired by Goya’s style.
