Sharim B'yachad
At Westchester Day School, one of the core values of our mission statement is ליבי במזרח ואנוכי בסוף מערב - My heart is in the East though my body is in the West. What better way to embody our love of Israel and the strength of our community than through song. All students and faculty spent weeks learning and rehearsing the song “Ahavat Yisrael.” The lyrics say it all; with the deepest faith we know that Mashiach will come to our beloved eretz yisrael.
Each division at WDS, from our tots to our 8th grade, was taught a piece of the song, including harmonies, so that when performed in unison, each part combined into a beautiful compilation. Artistically directed by our very own Mr. Shmuely and Mr. Lugazy, a sound producer from Israel, our entire school community produced a beautifully recorded rendition of “Ahavat Yisrael.” On Yom Ha’atzmaut, we gathered to record a magnificent video and invited parents and family members to join in this meaningful experience during our annual Yom Ha’atzmaut dinner celebration. The energy was electric! Students were so proud to perform this meaningful song and to share it with their parents. Against the beautiful backdrop of the WDS waterfront campus, this WDS Sharim B’Yachad will surely be a treasured memory for all who participated!
