WDS Fourth Graders Bring History to Life at Annual Wax Museum Event

Academic Wednesday, 21 May 2025

On Wednesday, Westchester Day School’s fourth grade students brought history to life—literally. In a much-anticipated annual tradition, 4th grade students took on the roles of historical figures they had studied in depth. From Harriet Tubman to Benjamin Franklin, Marie Curie to Sitting Bull, each student stood frozen in character—until the push of a button brought them to life to share their stories with parents and special guests.

This project is a powerful culmination of months of learning in the fourth grade. Throughout the year, students work on building critical skills in public speaking and note-taking, gradually developing the tools they need to research, write, and present with clarity and confidence. The wax museum represents the final step in a thoughtful and structured biographical study, where students research historical figures, draft original scripts, and rehearse their presentations.

It’s more than just a performance—it’s a celebration of growth in literacy, confidence, and creativity. Visitors were inspired not only by the depth of historical knowledge on display but by the poise and enthusiasm of each student presenter.

Kol hakavod to our incredible fourth graders for their hard work and dedication, and to the faculty who guided them throughout this meaningful project!
