8th Grade Sketches Political Cartoons

Throughout the year, our eighth grade students in Ms. Roode’s Social Studies class have been studying how political cartoonists’ employ various persuasive techniques and symbolism.

To close their Cold War unit, WDS’s eighth graders were challenged to make original and creative political cartoons covering topics such as the iron curtain, capitalism versus communism, the space race, the Berlin airlift, the Cuban missile crisis, and more.

Students presented these cartoons to their classmates, explaining the meaning of the symbols chosen and the message of their cartoon.
