Celebrating, Living, and Honoring the Legacy of Coach Ari Loren ז״ל
WDS's 1st Annual Ari Loren ז״ל Memorial Hockey Tournament was nothing short of incredible.
On a beautiful May day, more than 80 players, parents, alumni, coaches, and friends from across the tristate area came together to honor Ari’s memory and celebrate a legacy rooted in menschlichkeit, sportsmanship, grit, and teamwork.
With games both inside the gym and outside on the rink, families and players reconnected with old teammates and rivals, sharing the same energy and togetherness Ari brought to every team he coached.
Ari was more than a part of the WDS athletics story; he helped shape it. From stepping up to coach girls hockey years ago (despite being a father of only boys) to becoming a cornerstone of the girls' and boys' hockey programs, his impact was felt in every pass, save, and cheer.
We were proud to welcome players from WDS, SAR, Frisch, Leffell, Moriah, TABC, HAFTR, RKY, Shefa, and Park East, and even prouder to launch the Ari Loren Athletic Fund, which will support and expand athletics at WDS for years to come.
Thank you to the extraordinary group of volunteers, families, and community partners, including ESP Creative, Seasons Scarsdale, and JJoe Berrylicious, whose generosity helped make the day feel so warm for everyone involved.
More than a tournament, the day reminded us of what can happen when a community unites with purpose.
Plans are underway to build on this year’s success, with the hope that this is the start of a lasting tradition.
