Westchester Day School Honors Veterans
Veterans are important to our nation’s history and future. For over a decade, WDS students have paused to hear from veterans and express their gratitude.
Started by Middle School Social Studies teacher Tina Roode, whose father is a Vietnam War veteran, students from kindergarten through eighth grade wrote letters and cards to specific veterans, thanking them for their service to our country. The veterans are members of local VFWs or directly connected to the WDS community.
Middle schoolers also had the privilege to hear veterans’ personal stories. Several students, as well as faculty members, shared stories of veterans in their families. Students then connected with Sergeant Jason Nunez, who discussed his service in the marines and his experiences overseas, in addition to courage, integrity, and what that means for middle school students. Students also engaged eagerly with County Legislator and Army Reserves Lieutenant David Tubiolo about his civic and military service.
WDS is proud to instill, from a young age, the importance of honoring and thanking the veterans who have bravely served our country!
