The Rosh Chodesh Library Returns to the Coach House

Academic • Thursday, 05 Nov 2026

The weather has begun to change over at Westchester Day School, providing the perfect cozy backdrop for the first Rosh Chodesh Library of the year. This beloved Coach House tradition allows students in second through fourth grade to relax with a nice cup of hot cocoa and a snack while they dive into a book of their choice.

The Rosh Chodesh Library began last year when Morah Ziva Dorf and Ms. Jenny Appel envisioned a "library on wheels" for their students. The rolling library allowed students to choose stories that interested them, regardless of reading level or lessons being taught during class time. Their vision made such an impact on Coach House students that the duo received the Vivian & Stan Bernstein 2025-2026 Educator Innovation Award!

The book selections, which include both English and Hebrew options, promote a love of reading while encouraging independent exploration. Whether their next read takes them on a fantasy adventure or gives them a glimpse of history, students can’t wait until that library rolls around again!
