WDS Gathers for Neitz Hachama Minyan

WDS Community • Thursday, 05 Nov 2026

In the early hours on the last Friday in October, Westchester Day School students, parents, alumni, and grandparents gathered to daven against the stunning backdrop of the Long Island Sound. Scheduled on the last weekday before Daylight Savings Time, this year's Neitz Hachama Minyan provided a unique opportunity for prayer and reflection as a community, arriving at Shemoneh Esrei at that exact moment of sunrise.

The weather cooperated beautifully, allowing for clear views of the morning sun creeping over the horizon. Rabbi Klinger spoke about the significance of this practice, as historically it was a time when people davened when most people were required to get to work by sunrise. As such, they sacrificed their livelihood to ensure that they started their day in the most ideal way possible. At WDS, this sacrifice is taught to our students as they stray from their comfort zone to maximize their connection to Hashem and His Torah.

We would like to take a moment to thank our generous sponsors of this beloved event and to all families who set their alarms extra early to join us!
